Founded in 1999 by Mario Voninahitsy and Achille Raveronirina, two Malagasy entrepreneurs driven by their passion for the sea and the natural wealth of Madagascar, Matata has grown to become a symbol of excellence in the country’s seafood industry.
Specializing in the export of live mud crabs (Scylla serrata), Matata quickly established itself as Madagascar’s leading exporter in this sector. Over the years, the company has expanded significantly, now employing more than 1,000 people who proudly contribute to its growth and to the reputation of Malagasy marine products on the international stage.
Matata’s excellence and commitment to quality have been recognized globally, earning the company the World Quality Commitment Award twice — first in Geneva in 2005, and again in Paris in 2009.
